At Babel Digital we’ve completed a wide range of projects for a variety of clients, from small scale web based games right up to large scale 3D adventures. Below are a few links to some projects we have worked on that are currently on the web:

Case Study Young Finance Manager

Babel Digital gained its first major project in August of 2006. Scarborough Building Society saw the potential in Babel Digital and commissioned us to develop an innovative game designed to teach KS4 young people about personal finance and budgeting.

After an initial consultation we had an idea of what was required both educationally and in terms of the preferred delivery methods. We started by researching the various game genres, which would best compliment the learning objectives. We then took this information and compiled it into a comprehensive design, for Scarborough Building Society’s approval.

We understood that young people were at the core of this project and so it was essential to consider their thoughts on the product. So part of the development involved focus groups in two Secondary schools in Scarborough. This allowed us to work closely with the young people exploring their points of view and incorporating their ideas and feedback into the final game.

A core feature of the game was the accurate financial information used throughout. So it was essential that this data could be updated regularly as it changed in the real world. So we developed a product that had a fluid structure and created a separate game editor for updating the game data. This gave Scarborough Building Society the ability to update the financial information without any assistance from us.

The project was completed on time and to budget. It was a great success with a combined effort from Babel Digital, Scarborough Building Society, North Yorkshire Business Education Partnership and Filey School. We learnt a lot from the project and hope that we can work with Scarborough Building Society again in the future.

Young Finance Manager recently gained a Pfeg quality mark and is intended for rollout across local schools in Scarborough, with a national rollout planned.
